Victor Chamot

I’m a linguistics grad student at UMD¹, working on formal semantics and syntax. My main research studies the relation between modal flavors and their syntactic properties (among other stuff). I work on modal ellipsis in that regard, since I believe it gives insight into this question. My approach is theoretical and experimental. I also have a strong interest in logic, philosophy, and psycho- and neurolinguistics, and I’m pursuing the NACS certificate alongside the PhD. I have a longstanding interest in literature too, mostly through listening to friends who chose that other path in studying language.

Given these interests, I’m advised by Valentine Hacquard and Alexander Williams, and was previously advised in Geneva by Isabelle Charnavel and Anouk Dieuleveut. I also benefit greatly from the help of friends and colleagues, including Utku Türk and David Müller.

My cohort includes Alba Jorquera Jiménez de Aberásturi, Andrés López, Annika Shankwitz, Jackson Confer, and Philippe Larkin.
